Artist Statement

In this chapter of my life, I’ve allowed my artwork to be the space where I fearlessly color in and out of the lines in order to define my intense need to be free. The freedom to undeniably be myself in all of the spaces I fill. This series of phases visually represents my tug of war with self-acceptance, growth, vulnerability, and faith.

In this installment, I painted with different tools, such as a putty knife, to express the ways in which I’ve been scratching to go below the surface. I also used my hands as stencils because I have a need to leave my mark on everything I touch. What you will see is a direct representation of art imitating my emotions as I navigate through a series of phases to be undeniably free.

Color Story

These are the colors of my soul. As I’ve been meditating on my values, I am building a strong foundation in my personal and artistic life. Like primary colors, these are my basics. Currently, I need nothing more and nothing less. Black. White. Burnt Sienna. Gray. Mustard. These are currently the colors of my wonder.

Trust The Process

Everything you do has value because you are valuable, and every experience you have is valuable to your journey. Understanding this, I have the need to leave my mark on everything in order to truly be in the moment. I use this series as a visual journal, to reveal and work through my thoughts and feelings.

Slow down. Pause. Pray. Deep breath. Love. Practice mindfulness. Write it down. Express yourself. Laugh. Unravel. Lose control. Move. Take a chance. Color in and out of the lines. Fill up spaces with the intricacies of who you are. Everything you need is already within you. Unfold.
